- Competitive lessons are designed to take the new rider from their first schooling show to national competitions in hunter/jumpers, dressage and combined training.
- Beginners start in the arena, developing a good foundation of seat, hand and leg through systematic instruction.
- As riders progress, they are encouraged to compete at local schooling shows and later, rated competitions.
- Riders compete locally in the Sacramento Area Hunter/Jumper Association (SAHJA) shows as well as shows sponsored by the California Dressage Society and USDF.
- Advanced riders travel statewide to compete at the regional/national level of the United States Eventing Association
- Recreational lessons are for those children and adults seeking to improve physical fitness on the back of a horse. Lessons can include:
- trail obstacles
- play days
- field trips to the great outdoors
- Educational lessons are structured to blend life skills with riding skills to enhance the confidence and self-esteem of the at-risk or special needs student. A typical session would include:
- special games that teach the student to listen and follow directions as well as improve coordination and balance
- appropriate horsekeeping tasks that promote caring for others and taking responsibility for a living creature
- a sense of accomplishment in learning basic horsemanship, i.e., walk, trot, canter, control of the horse
